With this photo Iv tried to recreate the atmosphere of rallying in the late 70's early 80's...the heyday of rallying...back then Ford Escorts were the main cars, and pace notes were a thing un-heard of. The cars would keep going for upto 36hrs at a time. With the co-driver driving between the stages so the driver could rest. They would go through about 70 stages in 4days driving through, Fog, rain, snow, ice, darkness, and hoards of spectators who would fill the forests of Kielder, North Yorkshire, The Scottish Borders and Wales...come rain or shine, night or day, snow or heat (usually it wasnt the latter) Now that was rallying...and I think this photo re-captures some of the atmosphere there was in the late 70's...80's
And still 20+ years on there's nothing like the sound of a Ford Escort Mk2 echoing through the forest...thankfully some people remember what real ralling was...
